Complete silence tells you not to play four beats. Everything else looks like an upside down hat. To remind yourself that it’s upside down, just think that a lot fits in an upside down hat.
What is perfect rest?
: a musical silence equal in time to one round.
What is complete stillness in music?
Whole note rest: Also known as a whole note rest or half-short rest, this symbol represents a musical rest the length of a whole note. In a 4/4 time signature, a full rest tells the player to rest for the entire bar.
Is a full rest always 4 beats?
For a note in 4/4 time, whole means a whole (or whole) measure of time: 4 times. In 3/4 time, however, a whole note would be written as a dotted half note tied to a quarter note. For a break, everything always means a whole measure.
How long does full recovery take?
A whole (or demi-breve) takes the same amount of time as a whole note or demi-breve – 4 beats. You can hear the note of bar 1 being played for 4 beats, then there is a 4 beat rest in bar 2.
