Taylor was born on March 15, 1993, in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Brett Heinicke and Diana Dodsworth. She started playing football at Collins Hill High School. As a junior, he was selected by Allstate. As an adult, she was named National Player of the Year by Old Spice in Georgia. During her senior season, Heinicke played in the North/South AllStar Football Classic, where she amassed 254 yards and three touchdowns to earn MVP honors and also helped the North to 220 wins against the South.
Heinicke then played college football at Old Dominion University. In his senior season, he rushed for 3,476 yards, 30 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He also rushed for 139 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. During his college career from 2011 to 2014, Heinicke rushed for 14,959 yards, 132 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,320 yards and threw for 22 touchdowns.
In 2015, Heinicke joined the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Due to his frequent injuries, in 2017 he was released by the Vikings. On September 23, 2017, he signed with the New England Patriots practice squad.
On November 29, 2017, Heinicke was named to the training squad for the Houston Texans. He made his NFL debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 5, 2017. On April 13, 2018, the Houston Texans waived.
He then played for the Carolina Panthers and then the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL. On December 8, 2020, Heinicke was inducted into the practice squad for the Washington football team. He was promoted to the team on December 19. His first game with Washington came in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers after Dwayne Haskins was benched in the fourth quarter. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown in the 2013 loss.
