Early life

Salt Bae (real name Nusret Gokce) was born on August 9, 1983 in Turkey. He was born to his parents Faik and Fatima Goekce. Ella Faik’s father was a minor. She has three brothers, Ozgur, Ugur and Erman Gokke. Three of her brothers are also cooks.

Bae studied with Faik Sahenk Ilkokulu. However, she had to drop out of school during her sixth grade. His family reportedly forced him to drop out of school to become an apprentice butcher in Istanbul.

Bae has worked for free in local restaurants in various countries such as Argentina and the United States. She worked for free to gain experience as a chef and start her restaurant career. In 2010 she opened her first restaurant in Istanbul. In 2014 she opened another restaurant in Dubai.

Bae rose to fame in January 2017 after a series of her cooking videos went viral on the internet. She reportedly went viral after a video titled “Ottoman Steak” was posted on her restaurant’s Twitter account. The video has been viewed around 10 million times on Instagram.
