Early life
Robert Sarver was born on October 31, 1961 in Tucson, Arizona, in the United States. He was born to his parents Jack and Irene Sarver. His father was a Tucson banker, hotel developer and prominent businessman who died of a heart attack in 1979.
Robert graduated from Sabino High School in 1979 and enrolled at the University of Arizona, graduating in 1982. In 1983 he also became an auditor.

Robert began working for his father’s American Savings and Loan at the age of 16. Then, in 1984, he founded the National Bank of Tucson. He later expanded the bank’s operations statewide and changed its name to National Bank of Arizona. After running the bank for ten years, he sold it to Zions Bancorporation in 1994.
Robert co-founded the real estate firm Southwest Value Partners with Millard Seldin in 1990. In 1995, the company purchased a building called Emerald Plaza in San Diego. Emerald Plaza and two other office buildings were sold by his Santa Ana real estate company in 2004. In the same year, he purchased the Phoenix Suns professional basketball team for $401 million.
