Early Life
The Mariano family is of Italian origin. He attended Xaverian Brothers High School where he participated in various extracurricular activities such as golf and hockey. He then enrolled at Boston University, where he studied psychology and majored in art. During his studies, he was an active member of the hockey team.

Mariano was coaching a hockey team at the age of 25 when he first appeared on Survivor. In this first appearance in the series, he was part of the Maraamu tribe. Despite this, he will be eliminated after becoming the biggest target of the competition.
