Because of his work as a special assistant in the United States, Marshal Byrd decided to move to California. He also briefly worked as a school counselor at a local high school. Byrd read in a column that Judge Judy was starting her new show, then wrote her a congratulatory letter, mentioning her availability should the need arise.
Unconvinced of the show’s test cast, Judy decided to call Byrd. She accepted her offer to be the show’s constable and began their association in 1996. Over the years, Byrd has become the longest-serving television constable in history.
Byrd has become a celebrity in his own right over the years as the show has amassed a massive following. Byrd’s primary duties on the show are presenting filed cases, serving papers between the judge and the parties at trial, and ultimately accompanying people after the case is closed.
Because of the trust Judge Judy gained in Byrd over the next several years, her role was able to take on more complex responsibilities, including various aspects of cases brought to finding evidence in the field.
As the series has a lot of controversy and dramatic moments, Bird is also responsible for ensuring that no such disputes arise between the parties involved. Judge Judy is known for making various jokes throughout the show and Bird is often involved in many of these jokes which fans find amusing.
However, in the show’s 25th season, the pandemic interrupted Byrd’s regular role, as the show was now being presented remotely and thus did not have the same style as before.
There is now talk of a new spin-off show called Judy Justice, but the show now has a different partner, although Bird said she would be honored to be a part of it.
Personal Life
Bird is married to a woman named Felicia and they married in 1980. The couple have four children together. By 1989, their relationship had hit a rough patch, leading Byrd and Felicia to decide to part ways. However, they then began a month-long counseling session that restored their marriage.
