Early Life
Darío was part of the Popular Liberation Army, known as the communist guerrilla, with which he would be linked until 1991. Later, he was part of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia. Although it was an extreme right-wing paramilitary group, it was also a drug trafficking group through which Darío was involved in drug trafficking.
Othoniel’s luck and career
He later became a member of the infamous Los Urabeños drug ring run by drug lord Daniel Rendón Herrera. Here Dario joined the ranks of this illegal company and over time his influence in the group became so great that he took control of the entire group along with his brother Giovanni.
They had a very risky business that also involved a lot of murder. His brother Giovanni could not survive this risk either and as a consequence died in a police raid. From that moment on, instead of giving up, Dario decided to take over the cartel.
