Midnight Sun is a 2018 American romantic drama film based on the 2006 Japanese film Song of the Sun. The film was directed by Scott Speer and written by Eric Kirsten and stars Bella Thorne, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Rob Riggle.
The story tells of a young woman battling xeroderma pigmentosum that prevents her from being in the sun. When she meets the boy, she thinks of talking to him about her condition or pretending to lead a normal life. Principal photography began on October 12, 2015, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The film was released in the United States on March 23, 2018.

Kaoru Amane, a 16-year-old girl who didn’t go to school but started singing before bed every night outside the train station with a guitar in her hand, has lived an extraordinary life. She slept during the day and was active at night, which was contrary to the norm. Kaoru had XP (xeroderma pigmentosum), also known as a sun allergy, which prevented her from being in the sun. Singing was Kaoru’s only motivation in life, as well as her only connection to the outside world. One day, something causes a big change in her life…
At 4 in the morning, Kaoru returns home before dawn. In front of her room is a high school student with a surfboard in his hand, who has come to look at her. Every morning he and his friends watches him go to the beach and then fall asleep.
Lamp lighting can be a subtle but important element of movie images. The time between dawn and sunrise is a challenging time for two lovers as they are only a few hours apart. Their fateful meeting takes place in the last hours before dawn, bringing together two people who would never have met during the day. However, Kouji is unaware of her illness. The two quickly fall in love and continue to see each other at night on the town. Then one day an accident leads Kouji to discover Kaworu’s illness. Kaworu gives up on his first love and says to himself “I shouldn’t allow myself to dream of a happy life”. I’m crazy.” He even stops singing. Kouji, seeing Kaworu in this state, cheers him up by suggesting “Just see you at night” and offers him a big gift.
He lived his life carefully hiding from harm, not intending to pursue a dream. However, Koji lit a light in her heart and she wanted to sing again. However, his slowly advancing illness began to overload his nervous system, preventing him from playing the guitar as he wanted…
