Early life
Madison Cawthorne was born on August 1, 1995 in Asheville, North Carolina, United States. She was born to parents Roger and Priscilla Cawthorne. Madison graduated from high school after studying at home. She was active in sports, especially soccer, while in high school. Madison, a teenager, worked at a ChickfilA restaurant.
Madison enrolled at Patrick Henry College in the fall of 2016. She attended college with a bachelor’s degree in political science, but later dropped out of college and received a D. In January 2015, she began working as an assistant district clerk for United United States Representative Mark Meadow. She served there for over a year until August 2016.

In August 2019, he founded SPQR Holdings, LLC, a real estate investment company. However, no specific income was received from the investment company. In March 2020, Madison placed second, running for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District. However, Cawthorne ultimately won the June runoff after Linda Bennett, who had previously been in the lead, failed to get the 30% of the vote needed to avoid a runoff.
With this victory, Madison became the youngest member ever elected to the House of Representatives. During the 2020 campaign he was criticized for an Instagram post calling him Hitler, the Führer, which is German for “leader”, also referring to the ultimate evil. He reportedly appeared to support white nationalism, but later completely denied that he was a white supremacist. On August 10, he deleted the Instagram post of him.
Cawthorne defeated Democratic candidate Mo Davis in the November general election. After winning the election, he took office on January 3, 2021. He was one of 17 newly elected Republicans to the House of Representatives who signed a letter on January 20, 2021 congratulating President Joe Biden on his inauguration. When asked about the election results, he replied that he did not see any forgery in the vote.
