Kamal Haasan or Parthasarathy Srinivasan is an Indian actor, lyricist, producer, dancer and politician, mainly active in the Tamil film industry. He has contributed to several commercial and critically acclaimed hits in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu. He was once the highest paid actor in Indian cinema.
To date, the actor has received 19 Filmfare Awards and four National Awards. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He has worked in the Indian film industry for over 60 years and has appeared in over 220 films. In 2018, Kamal Haasan founded his political party called Makkal Nidhi Mayam in Madurai.

Career
Kamal Hassan began his career in 1960 with M. Saravanan’s Kalatur Kannamma. He also won a Rashtrapati Award for his performance in the film. He was then only four years old.
In 1962 he made his Malayalam debut with K.S. Kannum Karalum in Setumdavan. Kamal Hasan subsequently took a seven-year hiatus from the film industry and returned as choreographer Thankappan’s dance assistant. He helped choreographer Tankappan in several movies and even appeared in a dance scene in a 1970 movie called Maanawan. In 1974, he played the lead role in Vasudevan Nair’s MT Kanyakumari. For his role in the film, the actor received a Filmfare award. Later in 1975, he played the lead role in K. Balachander’s Apoorva Raagangal. His performance in the film was highly acclaimed and he received another Filmfare Award for it.
In 1976 Hassan collaborated with K. Balachander on another project called Manmadha Leelai. He later appeared in SP’s Oru Oodappu Kan Simmitugiradhu. Mutgurman on. It was a successful Tamil movie. This movie was shot again in Telugu in 1979 and Hassan was a part of it.
