Jonathan Irons was born in 1980 in the United States of America. Nothing is known about his early childhood, his parents and his upbringing. At 18, he was convicted of robbery and shooting. The report says he passed out at Stanley Stotler’s house and shot him twice. Stotler, who lived in O’Fallon, was armed as a mugger.

Irons was arrested by police as the prime suspect in breaking into Stotler’s home. However, he kept insisting that he was not even present at the crime scene and was recognized. Although his words were taken seriously, he was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

In March 2020, Missouri Judge Daniel Green, after hearing Jonathan’s testimony, vacated his sentence. Green showed fingerprints taken from the Stotler house. The fingerprint report was never filed in court by Iron’s defense team. According to the report, the fingerprint did not belong to either Jonathan or the crime victim, Stotler.

Daniel Green also stated that if the fingerprints had been submitted sooner, Iron’s defense would surely have received overwhelming forensic evidence that would definitively prove Iron’s innocence. After Iron’s case proved weak and circumstantial at best, Missouri Judge Daniel Green acquitted all charges against him.

However, St. Charles County Attorney General Tim Lomar was able to prove the case but did not dismiss it. As a result, Irons was released from the Jefferson City Correctional Center on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.
