Geraldo Rivera was born on July 4, 1942 in New York, United States. He was born to his parents Cruz “Allen” Rivera and Lillian. His father, Cruz, was a taxi driver and restaurant worker. He spent his childhood in two places, Brooklyn and West Babylon. Rivera has two sisters named Irene, Sharon, and a younger brother, Craig.

Regarding his education, he attended West Babylon High School. In 1961 he entered the Maritime College of the State University of New York. A few years later he transferred to the University of Arizona, majoring in business administration in 1965.

In 1966, he entered Brooklyn Law School. Before joining law school, he worked in various positions as a clothing salesman and a part-time cook. While attending law school, he had the opportunity to work as a regular student with Frank Hogan, a crime attorney. In 1969 he received his doctorate in law.
