Early life
Benzino was born Raymond Leon Scott on July 18, 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Nothing is known of his parents. He has two sisters, Maureen and Anita Scott Wilson. Two of his sisters studied medicine. He lost his mother on March 29, 2014. During his funeral, his grandson Guy Scott shot him in the shoulder and back.

Benzino was inspired to enter the rap genre after seeing the movie Wild Style. He also co-founded two rap groups, Almighty RSO and Made Men, but gained attention after collaborating with hip-hop magazine The Source. He founded the magazine with David Mays in 1988 while attending Harvard University.

Benzino became more popular after appearing on the 2012 VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. During the special reunion episode of the season, Benzino and Althea had a bad fight with Stevie Jay and Jocelyn.

Benzino was in a relationship with Carly Redd, whom he broke up with during the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta Season 1 finale. He later began dating Althea Hart. They both appeared on the 2015 reality show We TV Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars 4. The couple has a son named Zino Antonio Scott Jr.
He was also engaged to Althea Hart, although they never married. Subsequently, his ex-girlfriend/his girlfriend Althea filed a restraining order against him, including a paternity suit, following their separation from him.
