Ben Wallace was born on September 10, 1974 in Whitehall, Alabama, United States. Nothing is known about his parents and his early life. However, we learned that he grew up with 10 siblings.

For his studies, he enrolled at the Liceo Central. He excelled in baseball, basketball, and soccer when he was in high school. Wallace has even won every state award in football, basketball, and baseball. He was discovered on a basketball court in 1991 by his mentor Charles Oakley, who encouraged him to attend his old college, Virginia Union University.

Wallace played basketball for two years while attending Cuyahoga Community College. There he averaged 17.0 rebounds and 6.9 blocks in each game. He then joined the Virginia Union on the recommendation of his coach, Charles Oakley. During his college years he averaged 13.4 points and 10.0 rebounds in each game.
