Ben Crump was born on October 10, 1969 in Lumberton, North Carolina, in the United States. He grew up in a large extended family with 9 siblings and half siblings. Ben was cared for by his grandmother, as his mother, Helen, worked as a hotel maid. He also worked at the local Converse shoe factory.

Ben attended South Plantation High School in Plantation, Florida. He then enrolled at Florida State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1992. After three years, he earned his law degree in 1995.
