Ana Bárbara was born Altagracia Ugalde Mota on January 10, 1971 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. She did not reveal enough details about her past life, parents and her school background. However, she has been interested in singing and acting since childhood.

Barbara began her career by participating in the local Miss Universe beauty pageant, where she represented her home state. She managed to win a beauty contest.
